Shafer1994 is spot on. Dark fruits, clean, almost pure, precise, black berries, oak, smoke, mineral. Very young, classy, needs time. Has a potential for a 94-95 point mark. I deducted a point or two for being too “generic” and having a “contrived” feel - too much enology while not being bad per se, doesn’t inspire either.

Very dark, almost black color. Nose a bit reluctant. Very young wine. Dark fruit dominates the palate, black currant. Strong tannins. Medium finish, not yet ready. Will take 1 or 2 more years to unfold.

Retail $50. Heavy, heavy bottle. "Nero d’Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah, and other grapes." I have always been impressed by the way Donnafugata has championed responsible practices and have been stewards of the land, but this bottle is pretty darned heavy and, well, that is not good. But the wine? It is quite nice. Dark in the glass with oodles of dark fruit and spicy notes, followed by a surprisingly austere palate characterized by a near-exceedingly tart palate. Very Good.
Blend: Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah and other grapes from south-western Sicily, Contessa Entellina Estate, and nearby areas at 200-400 m with clay loam and 20-30% limestone soils and vines planted 4,500-6,000/ha yielding ~4-5 tons/ha. Manual harvest into crates with careful in field selection. Second selection with latest generation destemmer. 12-day fermentation in stainless steel and maceration on the skins at 26 - 30° C. Aged 13-14 months in new french oak barriques, and 24+ months in bottle. 13.8% Abv. History: Founded in Sicily in 1983 by Giacomo (1937-2016) and Gabriella Rallo, comprising today three wineries in three different terroirs: Marsala, Contessa Entellina and Pantelleria. Proprietors: The Rallo Family: Gabriella and offsprings, Antonio, and José (5th gen). Winemaker: Antonio Rallo
A(ccuracy)=2: Deep ruby/purple. Intense rustic blend. B(alance)=2: Ripe fruit with adequate structure. C(omplexity)=2: Dark berries, plum, toast, tobacco, earth. D(epth)=2: Chewy mouthfeel. Full length and finish.
Wine Tally Score [2,2,2,2] = 8/10
