  • Pre-dinner birthday wine. Got a case of 3 single vineyard expressions of his aligote not so long ago. So thought I'd open one before we go out for a meal. I've always loved his pinot but never not been happy to drink his aligote.

Aromas of lime, quince, nectarine jump from the glass. So perfumed and not as linear as his chard. Such a rich and opulent nose. Seems so powerful and I could easily see this aging for a good 5-10 years.

On the tongue it has medium acidity and the body to back it up. You can taste this on the tongue for ages afterwards.

I had the clos du Roy aligote not so long back, and think this tops it for me.

    Delightful, 93 points.

  • Sylavain Pataille continues to honour Aligote including four single vineyard wines from small plots. The Charme aux Petres from 0.34ha planted in 1949 - perhaps the most approachable of the four but in this excellent vintage this needs plenty of time. Jancis Robinson suggests from 2025 to 2030 and I agree with that. This has poise and a strong sense of place, but it is very youthful. 89 now, more to follow.

  • Acid on this is delightful. Cream of wheat and fresh linen on the nose. Baked lemon curd and mango sticky rice on the palate. This will be incredible in 3-5 years but its really fucking good now.

  • Light pale straw. Nutty aromas. Dry, tense and nervy, but leading to a pleasingly expansive, saline, mineral finish. Really rather impressive. It's not trivial at all - it's complex and distinctive.
