my white of the year! such purity, precision and balance. ample, complex nose that made me feel like i was opening a door to a magical world. bright golden yellow, apples and almond paste, silky and beaming palate. i wish i had more.

First Labet. Very airy nose with white fleshed fruits and green apples, like walking through an orchard. A little smoky and salty. Get a lot of citrus and apple notes on the palate, finishing a little oxidative at the back. Concentrated, broad and powerful, yet sits on light frame. The high acidity provides the necessary lift this needs, and provides excellent tension that keeps you wanting more! Magical wine - a vin d'emotion
❤️❤️❤️

Samples from Bill #9/10/11; 11/23/2023-11/25/2023: Apple, pear, almond and some smoky notes on the nose. Palate has some roundness at the start but it's just punchy and crunchy acid through the mid palate with a bit of grip as well. A bit less composed versus the Varrons.

Terroir Tuesday at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): My least favourite of the three 2019 chardonnays tonight. This has a little bit of a muddled quality about it -- it's not as precise and clean as the Lias or Chalasse. A modest browning note (not oxidation nor off-putting -- more of a mature fruit kind of thing) on the nose, with a palate that feels a little diffuse, despite the intense acidity and minerality. Oddly, a bit of tannin here that is reminiscent of, say, a tannic apple skin. A great wine in isolation, but less so in context.
