  Les Grèves is the largest Climat in the heart of Beaune, with 31.33 hectares. The wines are considered the richest, most structured and also the longest-lived in the appellation. The Moreys have owned their vineyard since 1969, with rows of vines stretching 450 metres up the slope, where the terrain changes from a more sandy soil to one more dominated by gravel. The Pinot Noir vines were replanted partly in 1976, partly in 1988 from a selection massale. Fermentation of the largely destemmed grapes takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

  Thomas Morey's 2020 Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru presents itself much cooler and more discreet than the so floral 2019. Here, just ripened red and blue berries, especially dark raspberries and also cherries show up in combination with a lot of stone, with herbs and a pleasantly used wood that brings a light touch of toasted notes as an accompaniment.
  
  On the palate, the Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru initially shows quiet and poised with a creamy texture and a ripe fruit that seems a little warmer than on the nose, but shows just the right form of maturity. The red and especially dark berries seem juicy, cherries find their way back in, plus a little wood with discreet smoke and some nuttiness. The Pinot Noir is balanced and expands surprisingly far on the palate. The acidity is as fresh and round as the tannin, which is typical for a Beaune. The wine is already wonderful to drink and has very good potential.
