7 hours bottle decanting. First, nose of new oak and barbera berries that distinguished it from nebbiolo. Later vanilla, some Burgundy CM village aroma, violet and black fruits. Palate had sour fruits with high acidity and alcohol. Loads of fruitness.

Praelum - The Winefather (Praelum Wine Bistro): Good sense of sour cherry and strawberry, markedly acidic, and clearly a coffee and chocolate flavour from the oak ageing. But somehow, the fruits and oak are kind of diverging... Could have been more integrated

Almost opaque at the core with some heat on the nose and a slight burn in the nostrils. Scents of black cherry, blueberry, and cedar. There's a tart cherry note that leads into wild strawberry, and a lingering note of cranberry. This is nice, but not as good as past bottles. Excellent.

Nose: Perfumy, floral dark fruits and dust. Subtle notes of vanilla, cedar and tar also present. Palate: Soft plums and very evolved tannins. Good minerality, and while elegant has a medium long, persistent finish. Typically I think Barbera is vin ordinaire but this is quite interesting and has good sense of place. Was recommended by the local Kobrand rep of which this wine is part of his portfolio. Well done. 91+ points.

This is a wine that really will benefit from some more time in the cellar. Medium body, high acidity, and a medium length finish. Notes of cherry, balsamic, and hints of earth dominate the nose. The palate is dominated by darker fruits, black cherry, blueberry, and blueberry. This is a wine that I believe lots of folks that lean more towards California could easily enjoy as well. However, this does not have the beauty of older vintages of the La Court (00 & 01) that seemed to be more earth-driven and focused on elegance. Perhaps in time...but this definitely feels like there was a style shift around the 2003 vintage for this wine. It kind of reminds me of the same style shift that Prado Enea had between the 1996 and 1998 vintages with a greater focus on extraction and a move away from the feminine beauty that the previous vintages offered. Outstanding...but a bit more masculine than the vintages I really loved from the past. A heck of a deal if you can find it for under $30. Outstanding.
