  • Had this out of a singed magnum @ Berserkers 7.0 deep purple (or plum, as one of the previous notes mentioned) Very strong on the ceder and earth on the nose and taste, the berries are not as strong. Nice balance. Medium plus finish, and actually as I am tasting the last sip of the bottle now (5+ hrs after it was initially opened) it tasted even better on the finish. Nice wine, even very nice for large parties , but I don't think it would have more benefit from future aging. Drink it if you have one. Enjoyable .

  • A Christmas Tasting in Maine (Bangor, Maine): A deep plum color at the core leads out to a ruby edge with less bricking than my last bottle. There are still scents of earth, funk, with it a light hint of bakers chocolate and cedar, but this time it smelled younger and tighter. Medium + tannins lead into flavors of blueberries, black cherries, and black berries that are pulled together in a lovely mouth feel with a long finish on a feather light body. This wine is great now...but will still be drinking well for another 3-4 years.

  • Outstanding...words do not do this wine's nose justice. A deep plum color at the core leads out to a ruby edge with minimal bricking. The nose screams of earth, funk, with a trailing scent of blueberry spice cake layered into the back ground bringing with it a light hint of bakers chocolate and freshly cut cedar. Medium + tannins lead into flavors of blueberries, black cherries, and black berries that are effortlessly pulled together in a lovely mouth feel as dark chocolate caresses the palate on the tail end of a 30+ second finish to this wine with a feather light body. This wine is superb now...but will still be drinking well for another 2-3 years. I will have a hard time holding off on my other bottle though!!!

  • On its own this wine doesn't seem to be any great shakes. Pleasant nose and palate of black cherry and tobacco fruit, together with high acidity, almost seeming a little hollow, although with decent length and a very Italian character. However with beef stroganoff it came into its own completely. The sharpness of the fromage frais in the dish and the acidity in the wine balanced and matched each other perfectly and the protein in the dish meant that the slight tannin in the wine dropped out completely. The wine cleansed the palate between mouthfuls, the purity of flavour shining through as an elegant blend of cherries and slightly perfumed cigar smoke. Though initially an adequate to good wine, when combined with the right food (and a little more air) this turned into a perfect example of what the Barbera grape and Italian wine are all about. (Michele Chiarlo Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza La Court) Good earthy, blackberry nose; good meaty and blackberry flavor with big tannins (100% Barbera; 18 mos. barrique and 1 year in bottle)
