Needs about 45 min of air to come to life. Black cherry, earth, iron and a bit of spice. Medium to full bodied, fully mature. Has reached a good plateau where it should hold for another 5-10 years

Best bottle so far of the 1997 Jadot Grèves. Wonderfull nose of mixed berries and sous bois. Light spice, damp leaves, clay and iron. On the palate perhaps not as deep and intricate as the very best burgundies but this is about as good as it gets from Beaune. Fully mature.

Popped and poured. This continues to be in great shape. Sour cherry, raspberry, earth and iron come through. Medium bodied, transparent, still vigorous with a life ahead. Short finish. But overall this is a very high quality 1997 for the vintage.

Slow ox for one hour. Robust, with a fairly big structure this comes through with flavors of raspberry, blackberry, earth and iron with a hint of meatiness. Overall a successful effort given this vintage and I would say this is probably drinking at peak now.

(Jadot Louis Beaune Les Grèves) Wasn't able to replace the Clos des Ursules in time - so here's the stand-in. Not normally quite as good as the 'Clos', but let's see. Deep ruby colour - looks pretty young. The nose starts quite closed, but there's plenty of high toned cherry fruit in the mouth - excellent acidity too. The tannins are very smooth and drying. The finish is medium-plus length. With time a lightly cooked nose of strawberry, plum and cherry develops and the fruit profile seems to become more red - redcurrant and raspberry. Perfectly balanced to leave as long as you wish. Very good.
(Jadot Louis Beaune Les Grèves) Still cherry colour, tending to ruby at the rim. Nose is 'full-on' red and black cherry with top notes of raspberry. The palate is very dry, good concentrated cherry fruit and excellent acidity for the vintage. Tannin is still there if you look. Still young, but 'forgiving' - wait another 5 years if you can for an excellent Beaune.

Mature but far from tired. Sour red berries and an earthy minerality. Medium lenght. Not a standout but a good example of the appellation.
