Casual theme: Thought this was advanced (guessed 06/08 modern Barolo) but judging from previous notes, seemed like it showed correctly. Even though this didn’t show overt oak use on the nose, thought it was still awfully modern with prominent oak tannins and extraction on the palate. Distracting herbal, liquorice notes, plummy finish. A wine that’s too sturdily built for its own good

Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo: Ripe dried plum and dates, leather and smoke. Very rich with great complexity. Good acidity, dark and murky and silky smooth. A bit over the top for my taste.

Dark in color with a punch in the nose and mouth of wood. It's herbal, savory, and dark fruited with tar, and odd efforts of stem inclusion gone awry. Awkward and discordant. Finishes with clamping astringent tannins. I really do not like this style

La Festa del Barolo 2023 (The Pool, NYC): Dark and moody in the glass, the 2018 Barolo Campe opens up with a blend of wild herbal tones and dried cherries. It’s softly textured, with masses of minerality up front contrasting a core of tarry blackberry and plum. This finishes with a hulking structure, a bit dried out and long, with grippy tannins that saturate as hints of black licorice slowly fade.

La Festa del Barolo: Masterclass (and burgers) (The Pool/Grill): Here a bit of the oak (which also seemed to be just in the background of the Elio Altare as well). Comes across more as a drying tannin. There’s still some sweet red fruits and drinks ok now but seems to have the structure and the presence for more of a longer drinking window. A wine to check in again on 20-30 years.
