Barolo Dinner (Mathilde Bistro - SF): The "white barolo" of the tasting. Fascinating nose - dried flowers, dried herbs, something exotic and almost Moschifilero like. Palate is a touch less interesting but still very nice and classic Italian white - lemony, texturally rich, and with a hit of savory minerals. Reminds me of Pieropan. Interesting note about the producer - the Castle was a residence for writers, including Primo Levi, and there's a plaque dedicated to him there. Would like to visit.

Maybe underscored but fascinating combination of floral nose and savory palate. Med- richness. Tart palate with a little depth. Classic food friendly Italian white.

Barolo Dinner (Mathilde, San Francisco): Aromatic, herbal, mint, tarragon; medium full bodied, richly textured, medium acidity, balanced, more textural than fruity; finish is medium length. The aromatics are fascinating. 90-91

This reminds me of semillon due to its waxy, mouth-filling texture that seems to lack a commensurate amount of flavor. Aromatically, it is floral and minty. On the palate, I taste more pear and lemon curd. It’s an unusual wine that tastes more French than Italian. Overall, I wasn’t a fan — it didn’t taste harmonious to me.

Delicious. Pale lemon in the glass, aromatic nose of citrus and blossom, palate is dry, balanced and integrated, Meyer lemon, white peach, pear, bit herbaceous, creaminess, acidity is high, body medium, finish long. Very interesting nearly extinct varietal brought back from obscurity. The white Barolo, yummy.
