  • Ordered by the glass from a restaurant's list, this wine was sampled from a bottle that was immediately popped and poured, with the glass being refilled once over the ensuing 90 minutes. Medium ruby in color, it delivers aromas and flavors of red currants, Montmorency cherries, smoke, hazelnuts and dry earth. Medium-bodied, freshly acidic, minimally oaked, softly tannic and without noticeable alcohol (13%), it unfortunately thins quite dramatically on the mid-palate and is truncated on the finish. Despite its deficiencies, this wine is enjoyable; it simply cannot be compared to Felsina's more esteemed bottlings. Drink now-2027.

  • From 75cl, synthetic closure, two bottles opened but not decanted for 2 hours. This tasted at once strongly, even a little bitingly acidic, and old-oaky. I have enjoyed several previous vintage of this CCS most about 4-5 years after the vintage, so I'm sure it's worth keeping this one another year or two to see if it settles down. 86P(+?)

  • Medium ruby red in color. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of violets, some herbs & a hint of minerals. Medium bodied with a good concentration of balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour red cherries, plums & strawberries with dried herbs, earthiness & minerals. Lingering finish. Quite accessible at present with decanting & airing but has the potential to continue with further development with a few more years. Not as deep, lush or rich as the Chianti Classico, but has a very good QPR.

  • Day 1, lighter sangiovese with a gentle grip of tannins.
Initially I felt it was a simple chianti but picks up some more nuance with air.

Day 2, sweeter fruit emerges and those gentle tannins seem to be a bit dustier and more firm.

    $15 chianti, yes please!
