  • Nice wine.

This was consumed with cheeses (various) and then a braised beef. Several people contributed to the notes. We compared the 2019 to the 2018. Both were decanted and open for 1.5-2 hours.

All preferred the 2019, although the gap narrowed with food, particularly with cheeses. All also agreed that drinking either is a treat - particularly with food whee most Barbarescos and Barolos complement rather than overpower food, IMO.

Translucent ruby with almost transparent rim. Slightly darker than the 2018 which seemed cloudier and had a slight orange tinge.

very pure nose of tar, flower petals, bight berries. Again, a much purer, less earthy and less funky nose compared to the 2018 (not that the 2018 was very funky, but by contrast...).

Palate matches nose with berries, flowers, tar, and some earthy notes, in a sea of smooth tannins. The tannins are ever so slightly more forward and less mature than the 2018, but certainly in no way intrusive (to me).

Finish is medium to long and delicious.

I really like this wine, especially at the price.
