  • Tasted blind, you might pencil this in as a lighter CA syrah. Even if it won't trick you into think its from piedmont, its a pleasurable wine to drink with a lightly perfumed red forward nose leading into a mineral laced, strawberry palate with enough acidity that this will last in the cellar for a while longer. I wish i had more than one left.

  • Consistent with prior notes, very nice for the price, a lot of wine here, though won't be confused with more complex Nebbiolo from Piedmont.

  • Deep ruby in the glass. Nose of sandlewood, cherry, spice. A bit medicinal on the nose. Entry has a fair bit of VA, mid palate is quite harsh, and the finish is long and syrupy. I cannot tell if this is an off bottle or just not my style, as my review is wildly different than consensus. There are no obvious signs of this being Nebbiolo

  • This Nebbiolo is a captivating wine that effortlessly captures the notion of what I consider in Santa Barbara fruit.

On the nose: a bouquet of red cherries, dried roses, and a subtle earthiness and depth of aroma.

On the palate: reveals a remarkable smoothness, a trait that is both enticing and one I will also critique. Really velvety texture here, glides effortlessly, carrying flavors of ripe red berries, hints of black tea, and a touch of spice, maybe some rosewater. The tannins are well-integrated, providing a nice balanced structure without overpowering the wine's elegance.

Something to note is that the fruit here is excellent and highly extracted, a bit like the appassimento style in Italy, combined with the fact that there is a lot of new French oak sweetness here. Though the wine is bone dry, with zero residual sugar. While the new French oakt enhances the overall balance and complexity, I might argue that a slightly lighter touch with the "new" oak could have allowed the terroir's nuances and the fruit's natural vivacity to truly sing. That said, the wine is really enjoyable and alluring, especially at this price point. And, there is only 25% new French oak here, so, it seems like a reasonable number. Net-net, it's really hard to critique or find fault at this price point, as this is simply outstanding, and I would have gladly shelled out $40 for this bottle.

The finish is medium+ and satisfying. This wine has charm. I really like it.

  • I couldn't resist another bottle after reading a past note. Drank in 2 days; 4-hour open decant prior to drinking

Notes are mostly unchanged from prior. Again, this one struck me as a pretty good QPR. After tasting again and reading my original description, not sure that this one will age quite as well as originally anticipated, but I will still stow the others away and follow for a few years.

This time around, noticed a twinge of something sour on the finish (not consistent with previous bottles). I am hoping this was just a one-off bottle issue, or that my taste buds were having an off night. Still a great bottle, particularly with rich / cheesy / creamy foods.
