I’ve spent years resisting the fact that I really enjoy Corsican wine. Is it nerdy? Sure. Lots of bio producers? Of course. Is even more pricy than obscure? Natch! That latter of which is admittedly vexing, but goddamnit if this bottle ain’t worth it. Lemon oil, pine needles, sea spray and well, more sea spray on the nose. And some maquis. Well, lots of it, but it builds. The palate is ripe and textured but shows fine cut (not shrill by any means) and is redolent of white stone fruit with a satisfying splash of Sorrento lemon, citron, and even a hint of yuzu. Plenty of concentration with a firm spine of salty minerality and fine sap. The ratio of energy to weight is compelling here and fittingly each sip begets the next. Cracking with pork cutlets with mint & pecan pesto, farro and roasted asparagus. And if you happen to have some swordfish or line-caught tuna and a grill handy, I’d be happy to have a bottle or two in the wine fridge. Thanks to my dear friend Kimberly from One Kourt Studio for selling me a few bottles, though truth be told, I probably should have purchased more.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light lemon-green colour, with wide watery rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (-) intensity aromas of floral notes of blossom, citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of pear, stone fruit of peach, tropical fruit of melon, oak notes of vanilla, sweet spice of ginger. The wine is youthful. Palate: Dry with medium (+) acidity, the wine has medium alcohol and medium (-) body, with medium (+) intensity flavours of citrus fruit of lime, green fruit of pear, stone fruit of peach, mineral notes of stony. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Corsica Vermentino with reasonably intense aromas showing good complexity, with wide range of fruit and floral characters, supplemented with a bit of spice. On the palate the wine is well-balanced, refreshing and vibrant, with good acidity and concentration in flavours, finishing with a decent length. It is ready to drink now and not meant for further ageing.

Starts crisp and bracing, though not overly so for a Vermentino; finishes deceptively long and sweet, with vanilla (!!) and tropical fruit. This grew on me…two thumbs up.
