Leaf Day - new to the store - Pop n Pour into a Pinot Noir glass. Barely translucent violet core to a ruby tinged edge. Nose is violets, savoury herbs, granite, red fruit and a touch of candy floss. On the palate it’s fresh but also plush with medium plus acidity. However the ripe fruit overwhelms the acid on the initial flush of flavour. Then the savoury elements and the acidity take over through the middle and back palate and the medium length finish which carries the acidity, tannins, floral elements and savoury fruit. Right now a definite food wine due to the savoury and acidic qualities. Well made and showing definite promise for development. Later with some air and time, the nose shows smoke, granite, violets, savoury herbs and a hint of sarsaparilla. The palate is still plush but the fruit is now balanced with the acidity and the savoury elements. The finish is softer with the fruit, herbs, light tannins and acidity making it a wine to want to sip again. Recommendation- if drinking now, decant for 1 hour. I feel this will develop extremely well for 5-8 years and lean towards the Pinot Noir side of Gamay.
