Tasted at Caviste wine merchant, UK, an evening of Herzog wines presented by Hans & Therese Herzog.
Medium cherry colour. Eucalyptus and leather on the nose. Very dry.
The room was divided because this pinot has a quite a distinctive style and not perhaps what some expected from a NZ pinot. Therese explained that they strive for a pure pinot style, don't add any residual sugar and try to avoid the more fruit forward style typical of NZ, especially Central Otago.
I drink a lot of pinot and this wasn't really to my taste. It's just a little bitter for me and it's not especially smooth. But others thought it was great.
Interestingly, I'd drunk this wine and vintage before a couple of years back and my comments are very similar.
