After the two Burgundies this was a pleasant surprise. Fairly pure blackcurrant fruit backed by sweet spice, touch of vanilla, a little plum and red berry here as well. Obviously meant to be their DYA but has the stuffing to go for a few more years...

The 3rd wine from the renowned Saint Estephe property is crafted through a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot grapes. It matures for approximately 18 months in oak barrels, with about 30% being new oak (specifically, third-passage barrels for around 16 months in this vintage). Le C de Calon Ségur is characterized by distinct notes of dark fruits such as blackberry and black currant, along with a lovely hint of licorice. The tannins are elegant, and the acidity is well-balanced. It can be enjoyed already and does not give the impression of significantly improving with further aging.

Very pure fruit of blackcurrant, toasted star anise, vanilla and a touch of barnyard. Palate echoed the nose. Almost full-bodied, herbaceous and aromatic. Nice texture for such a young wine. Good freshness and long finish. A good third wine from Château Calon Segur. Drink this for the next 3-5 years.

Dark red. Fruit forward nose. Dark fruit, mineral, dry leaf, oak, licorice. Firm tannins soften over 30min. Bold wine

Accessible and approachable. Deep ruby with delicate rusty hue. Dark fruits, black tea, and green pepper. Moderate oak with vanilla and cedar.
