Patrick Piuze's Terroir de Chablis is sourced from two north-facing parcels that are in close proximity to the Premier Cru Montmains vineyard. Sampled over 90 minutes as a restaurant's by-the-glass offering (from a freshly uncorked bottle), the 2021 iteration is a light-to-medium golden Chardonnay that flaunts an aromatic array of Mandarin oranges, stone fruits, quince, white flowers and ginger. Medium-bodied and without perceptible wood or alcohol (12%), it delivers flavors mirroring the aromas, buttressed with lively acids and chalky minerality. Solid in the middle and lengthy on the back end, this is another impressive performance from Piuze. Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years. At this point, 30-60 minutes of air is helpful to optimize the aromatics. Drink now-2036.

Showing Chablis typicity. Bitter citrus and white orchard fruit with Granny Smith apple and chalky minerality. It is young but the acids are a little too unrefined and aggressive. Acceptable length only. But, overall, good at this level. It may improve a little, and the acids integrate, by say 2025.

A nice surprise! After a disappointing experience with this producer's Terroir de Chichee, I was not expecting much from this Terroir de Chablis but it turned out to be a definite step up. Pretty medium gold color in the glass. Very restrained on the nose: I detected wet stone but nothing very noteworthy in the way of fruit or floral. The minerality carried through on the palate, which I appreciate - nicely crisp and very fresh. Tart lemon comes through on the dry finish but not so overpowering as to be off-putting. I wish that instead of opening this I had let it sit for another couple of years, which is exactly what I'll do with my one remaining bottle.
