Opened alongside a 2005 Stewart. Athena was bright with hints of cherry, orange and a bit of vanilla. Slightly tannic still - probably could have waited one more year.

A brilliant ruby robe, with just a touch of thinning at the edges, the nose features rich, candied cherry, bitter dark chocolate, underbrush and a smidgen of oak spices. Glass-decanted in Vinum XL pinot noir glasses 30 minutes before pairing with pan-fried and oven-finished Atlantic salmon with spicy tomato vinaigrette, this was very dry and a good, if not excellent, match for the entree. We love what Athena and Stuart are doing, and this is still drinking excellently!

The vanilla notes jumped from the glass right after I poured it. On the palate, it has notes of dark fruits like blackberries and macerated cherries along with vanilla and cinnamon.

This wine has an orange, garnet rim. While very mature, it has nice bramble nose. Very interesting. On the palate, it has notes of dark fruits like blackberries and macerated cherries along with vanilla and cinnamon. Now the acidity is in balance. It has gained considerable complexity over the years.

The acidity seems more pronounced than the fruit at this wine's stage of development. Still, it is an enjoyable Oregon pinot. I think it is time to drink up this vintage.
