  • One of my CsOTY. Full-bodied, rich, layered and complex. Stunning

  • It is a mingling effect (Mingles , Seoul): By the glass as part of their signature pairing at Mingles , Seoul.
Straight out of the glass singing wine and what a great surprise. Ditch the flutes here ( they are for beer anyway) and go for big white wine glasses to allow the wine the full capacity to deliver. Well aged , rich palate, good autolitic side, fuller palate and with a lot of bready truffle-y notes on the nose . Superb and easy 94 .

    100% Chardonnay , disgorged 21 Jan 2021 with 3 g/l

  • Used Bordeaux style glass for this tasting. Initial impression in glass was lovely clear yellow with fine mouse. Complex and intriguing on first taste. Not over powering of citrus notes but they were present first; in no way too lemony, more subtle. Neither was the champs too much apple. Mild brioche; one taster said it was like strawberry brioche. As wine warmed up I got a distinct nose of caramelized pears with a bit of apple in back ground. Mouth feel pleasant, not thin or weighty but with good heft for my palate. Finish there but not overlong. This wine reminded me of a 2000 VV Doquet champagne we drank 3 years ago. That bottle of Doquet was the best Champagne I’ve ever had. The 2004 Champ d’Alouette Le Misnil sur Oger reminded me of that experience…very close in pleasure .

  • This is an old school champagne. Think, a champagne that has spent 16 years of aging on its lees! And there is a dosage! What a change from all these modern and fashionable cuvées that are disgorged after 2 years on lees in extra brut.

The nose is elegant, on candied citrus fruits. Lemon, grapefruit and peach. The chalk will impose itself on the warming.

On the palate, the juice is deliciously coated with a fine acidity. We bite into the candied grapefruit which literally flows in the mouth. The patina of time and the tension respond harmoniously to give a chalky depth and a crystalline extension. Structured champagne, served by a discreet bubble where the citrus gives way to chalk then to a vinous touch, almost roasted. Beautiful fresh and bright finish on a length that unfortunately lacks a bit of punch to close a high level set.

    Excellent champagne.

  • Bottled 05/05. Disg 01/21 with 3 g/L. Pale gold color which I only note as I expected more color. Very tight upon popping. Needs a solid hour in order to give up the goods. Butter cream, lemon and raw nuts. Again, not as rich as you might expect on the palate. The finish is not quite integrated showing a sweet tart quality in a small way. Bright and crisp with a lovely blend of pears and apples. Thus really flashes promising complexity. Seems tighter on night two but no less fresh. An excellent wine by any measure. It really needs a few more years for my palate. It would still be a fantastic companion for some white fish now. Terrific.
