Plums, and leather on the nose. It smells fairly rich and dense.
On the palate, more plums and leather, a touch of black pepper, some tobacco, and a hint of roasted meat. A hint of grapefruit peel dances through the the finish. The finish is medium+, tannins are medium, and acidity is low to medium.
Overall, a tasty and reasonably-priced Syrah from one of Chile's best-known wine producers. It benefits from pairing with food, particularly richer flavored foods like the flat iron steak and smoked macaroni and cheese that I had with this wine.
When it comes to Montes' Alpha line, the Syrah is a good, delicious wine, but I find myself missing the rounded plushness of the flavors from their Merlot and Carmenere. Still a solid buy for the price.

I'm pretty sure this is my first Syrah from South America, with Aromas of green bell pepper, vanilla, smoke, and plum. Cannot mistake that Chile nose that's for sure. Flavours of vanilla, bell pepper, black fruits, pepper, and cedar.

Clear medium/deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of stewed cherries, baking spices, vanilla, soil and a hint of green pepper; dry; medium plus acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium flavour intensity; palate is slightly tarter and follows nose; medium plus finish; drink now; good crowd pleasing wine

Poured directly into a glass; no decanting.
