Our first bottle showed more torrefaction than a coffee roaster’s convention, this coupled with a big dollop of caramel indicated quite an oxidised wine (Don, just out of interest the cork was quite pale with a blue tinge). I had 1bottle left and quickly called it into play, same blue/white tinge on the cork and a little whiff of espresso but in much better nick. There’s a bit of pine needle sap to the aroma along with red currants and cherry. In the mouth there’s plenty of earth, a little cranberry and an energetic finish thanks to some brisk acidity.

Drank at Café de Certoux, near Geneva. Bright red, pale, no bricking. Subtle, yet pleasant bouquet of cherries and some faint caramel notes. On the palate this is a lively, somewhat acidic wine with very fine cherry notes, silky smooth tannins, and a slightly sweet quality which adds to the pleasure of the wine without making it come across as confected. The finish is long and lovely. Somewhat lighter on its feet than other NSG - more like a Volnay in fact - but very nice indeed. 50+5+12+17+7=91.

Tasted at McCarthy & Schiering. Served blind, this wine is singing very brightly, clearly Pinot. On the palate this is very silky. The finish shows a nice strawberry element. Gorgeously balanced with nice acidity. Just when I think I don't appreciate Pinot, a wine like this comes along to teach me otherwise.

Nothing technically wrong but had a weak nose, soft non-descript fruit and short finish. Didn't taste like it came from NSG.
