Return to Willamette; 7/2/2023-7/8/2023 (Portland & Willamette): The way this wine was described I was sure that perhaps I’d missed it since I don’t think of myself as liking the earthy/mushrooms Pinots as much as the fruit forward ones and yet I was quite drawn to this. It’s got a nice lift to it. Tart cherry and almost the spice or bitters that you might imagine would come with a cherry drink. Perhaps some cherry pit. A bit herbal in nature. From a vineyard that is very skinny and very steep and surrounded by greenery so kept relatively well shaded. It was quite compelling to me. Mostly sandy soil.

Wine spectator gave the 21 a 94 rating. Our 2021 Le Pré du Col Vineyard Pinot Noir captures the essence of this outstanding vintage, with an elegant nose of lemongrass, mint, oregano, subtle perfume, rose water, and cranberries. Classic Le Pré du Col Vineyard flavors of succulent red fruits, mossy earth, and rich, umami-tinged intrigue mingle amongst whole-cluster tannins that guarantee a long and legendary life in the cellar.
The brooding, sophisticated flavors of our 2021 Le Pré du Col Vineyard Pinot Noir cement this vineyard's status as one of the world's greatest terroirs for Pinot Noir.
