  • Rich and lustrous dark purple, some fading at the rim. Very fresh and crunchy still, the nose is dominated by a tranche of fresh violet aromas which obscure a great deal of complexity underneath. The darkest ripest Italian plums, sandalwood, baking spices, and a wee hint of vanilla.

The palate shows a great deal of structure characterized by fine sandy tannins, great grip from not only the tannins but also a hint of malic acid making it chewy and quenching, the plum and dark cherry fruit is crunchy, fresh, and juicy.

My first touriga nacional, I enjoyed this wine immensely but believe it is better than it is showing today. The flowery aromas while beautiful, dominate the nose, and the palate while rich, spicy, and juicy, shows more primary fruit than the underlying hints of baking spices, sun-baked stones, and pipe tobacco.

I’m going to look for more of this and wait 6-10 years.
