Picked this up after tying the Face B bottling, and where the other bottle was quite special, this unfortunately feels a bit middling. Mineral inflected nose, touched by quiet red fruit and florals. Chewy tannins for Gamay and medium acidity. Palate falls somewhat flat, focused on austere berries. Disappointing given the promise of the domaine's other inaugural cuvee.

A private lunch (Restaurant SAAM, Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, NL): Lot No.1, lieu-dit Les Labourons. Decayed granite, aged in concrete cuve, bottled unfiltered, 5400 bottles, 200 magnums and 30 jéroboams produced, 12% ABV. This Domaine's inaugural wine, together with the Prélude Face B which was aged in wood. On the one hand this has a classical and polished Fleurie profile, cherries and peaches and violets and roses, but it also has a natural feel and some wilder spicy and yeasty notes, the tannins are quite firm and initially a bit dry, length on the slightly meaty finish is very good. From a vineyard in transition from conventional to biodynamic and it shows. The quality of the terroir will undoubtedly win through, but it will take a few years to turn it around completely. Cautious score.
