  • This wine, and really the whole amphoraes series should be first and foremost seen as an experience. In essence, the Saoumas have looked to isolate 4 different parcels in Chateauneuf, with the Pierredon one being the only white wine of the bunch.

The colour is a work of art, as the 12 months unwaxed amphorae elevage rendered a wine that was basically half way between pure orange and a golden sunset. The nose and mouth are to no surprise full of peaches, apricots, nectarines and a tangy zitrus zest. Other tropical notes, cut through by a nice herbaceous/herbs presence and decent acidity completes the whole thing. Velvety texture.

The bottle needed some air to really get to its highs and the integration level leads me to believe this could be something (even more) special in 3-5 years. The ageing, at least for me, does present a mystery because of the vinification and elevage method.

    Try if you can.
