  • Opened yesterday, retasting again tonight at room temp (67f) using a StandArt stem. This was a gift from a friend who has high marks for this wine and he wanted to have me try it. Aromatically there is a lift from some new oak, along with some moderate elevation of heat from the ripeness that I presume the vintage and style gave the wine. On the palate, pretty consistent with the aromatic in that the palate profile shows the same riper tones. The texture tends towards the fleshier side, with a good hit of juiciness from the acidity that is present. Dark cherry, a bit of vanilla, iron and light tar, along with a spicy, herbal note into the finish. There is some sophistication to the wine, in that the oak is present but seems likes the use of it was measured well, in a riper style with enough zing to the wine to keep the energy. Overall, the style here is riper that I tend to prefer but I know that my palate tends to the higher acid, lower ABV style so judge my note accordingly.
