Syrah-like colour that made me think this was a recent warm vintage Burgundy, but was clearly a non-Burg Pinot after tasting it. Didn't get any candied strawberry fruit so I guessed German Pinot. When revealed to be new-world it could only be a cool climate region so thought NZ. Surprisingly elegant given the colour, not much complexity but pleasurable enough to finish a glass of this.

I somehow missed tasting this at the CD on our last trip to Hobart. I’m with Graeme on this being a rung under the single vineyards, but it’s still decent value at the sub-$50 member rate. This is a little tight right now but definitely approachable as a youngster. Better in another 3 or 4

Coal Valley Wineries (Coal Valley, Tasmania): {screwcap, $58} Floral, cherry nose, but also with a hint of earth and subtle oak. Almost lean, quite savoury palate, not unripe though. Low/medium dusty tannins, medium acid and light-medium weight. Dusty, dry, short-medium length finish. Time will really help here, although the step up to the single vineyard wines is quite noticeable.
