{screwcap, 13.5%} Mix of estate and other local vineyards in the Coal Valley. Quite a deep garnet for a Pinot. Nose gives it away instantly, with rotting strawberries, a hint of tobacco, some malty oak. Five-spice sort of character too. Very seductive, and only a little off fully primary. The palate really needs a chew to get the flavours running; just opened and poured, maybe a decant would have helped? Milder flavours than you expect, perhaps closed, much earthier and less overtly grapey. Certainly tobacco, dusty indian spices. Light/medium weight. Low fine powdery tannins. Does rather fall down on the finish, which is on the shorter side, lacking persistence and charm. Just takes the edge off the experience. At nearly $50, this is starting to stretch the friendship as far as a value for money goes. Perhaps pay the smaller premium for the single vineyard releases? Can be kept, obviously. In hope of better things to come...

Return to Aus; 6/23/2019-7/5/2019 (Adelaide, South Australia wine regions, Tassie, Yarra, etc.): Off the by the glass list @ Quay. This was a bit fuller bodied than I predicted. Darker fruits. More terroir and earthy. It's more old school in style so almost a skew toward the earth over the fruit even though still definitely there. Easy to drink. Not to me as good as the Yeringberg we had right after.

A fantastic Burgundy style Pinot. Great depth of palate, and soft finish. Definitely worth buying again.
