  • This is a beautiful wine with a vivid ruby red color. The nose is intense, with notes of forest fruits, cherry, and ripe fruit, accompanied by a slight hint of spicy notes and some floral touches. On the palate, it has elegant tannins, beautiful freshness, and persistence.

  • Light ruby, youthful color for nebbiolo; aromatic, roses, higher toned and brighter red fruits; palate is light bodied, red fruited, some roses and floral, high youthful tannin, high acidity, relatively high 14% alcohol which shows just a bit, midpalate thins out with less complexity; finish is short-medium length. A very nice Langhe Nebbiolo, drinking well now and a great everyday wine. This would probably age a few years easily. 88-89

  • The ‘22 Berri was tasted from barrel in two components. The first is the destemmed wine. The second is a barrel with 30% whole bunch which will likely be blended into the wine, with the final wine having a small (5% or so likely) share of whole bunch.

The destemmed ‘22 Berri is a very pretty wine with bright, sweet red berry fruit, red floral tones, and mint, a super classic Nebbiolo profile. On the palate, it is medium to light in body with pure red fruit and floral tones, with beautiful sweetness to the fruit and a medium to high acidity level. It comes across as a classic, fresh wine with no sign of heat.

The whole bunch barrel is difficult to taste on its own, as it is meant as a blending component. This barrel also hadn’t been racked recently so it was a bit reductive. That said, the barrel shows that 30% whole bunch would clearly be too much for this wine in my opinion, as the wine is dominated by the stem aromatics, with cool herbal tones and exotic spice dominating the red fruit and floral tones of the destemmed barrel. On the palate, the wine is intense and a bit rustic in comparison to the destemmed barrel, with stem influenced herbs, spices, and a bit of leather.

The ‘22 Berri seems really promising. In ‘22, I preferred the Berri over the Rocche at least for now, as it seemed more classic and cool in tone in this hot year. The wine shows great freshness and my guess is incorporating a small percent of whole stems will ultimately add further freshness and intrigue, although to be honest I found the destemmed barrel very compelling on its own.

  • Nice and fruity, give it some air and enjoy. Typical Nebbiolo, not too tannic, nose somewhat reticent, alcohol sticks out a bit. Strong taste, mouthfilling, fruit driven but plenty structure behind, decent to long finish. Nice bottle, ready to drink but no hurry at all.
