Had at Trattoria La Sostanza in Florence. This was closer in quality to a Brunello than I was expecting and backs up all the positive press about this producer. Dark ruby, transparent, silky and with genuine depth. Not tannic. In terms of my ‘score’, really what do points on Cellartracker mean considering we all have our own likes and dislikes…but this was so much more than I was expecting, the winemaking obviously top notch and, well, I enjoyed it a hell of a lot, hence 92.

Light red. Briary, soft. Round, gentle. Approachable. A little shortish. Nice. Now for 5 years.

Tuscany (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Ripe, red cherry, cream, slight buttery, pretty fruit forward nose with a tiny herbaceous savoury underpin. Roles reversed on the palate, savoury, slightly meaty, cherry fruit, chewy persistent flour textured tannin, slight non intrusive alcohol warmth helps carry the fruit. S'alright...
