Vibrant inky purple, with intense and immediate blue and black berry fruit, raspberry too, tar and bacon. Quite reminiscent of some 1990 Northern Rhônes that were so delicious to drink young, yet had the stuffing and balance to age. One to follow!
From memory: On the first night this was a bit overshadowed by the same vintage's Graft Van Loggerenberg which had more immediate complexity (more pepper and meaty notes). However, this did open up wonderfully over the course of a couple of nights, glad to have some for the future!

Lay & Wheeler South Africa tasting (Glazier's Hall): Great balance of richness and tight precision. Ashy, bonfire notes with a hint of sweetness to the red and blue fruit. Beautifully perfumed but otherwise quite upright. Deep and complex, will age. Very compelling.

Spectacular now, I look forward to trying another bottle when the wine has shed some of its baby fat
