Dark and quite dense, but this was vigorously red-fruity with a gorgeous earthy grip and then a blast of sappiness. Seemed grander than a villages. And more refined than past bottles. Terrific.

Drinking well at 20 years. Forest floor and floral notes on the nose. Sour cherry on the palate with good acidity. Still some puckering tannins and good acidity.

This wine is at the exact level of development I like to drink my Burgundy at. When the notes of sousbouis reach the same level of the fruit ones. There're also some animal notes. But not gamey meats. More like fur, wet fur. Like if a deer was running through a rainy forest lifting the scent of wet oaktree leaves. This is what I have learned to recognize as Gevrey. On the palate it is supple, juicy with mid-level extract and some intermediate sweetness. Red fruits and savory herbs intermingle. Almost 20 years have gone by and there is still a hint of tannic grip too. It is crazy how different French Burgundy to American pinot is. The finish is dry and longer than expected, premier cru long. Without a doubt, an amazing bottle that was worth the price and worth the wait.
Deep ruby, browning to edge. Very alive, tons of dark black & cherry fruit. Great acidity. Serious tannin structure still. But in now way harsh, just solidly. Earth, root vegetables and meat too. Very good wine, still drinking big and strong.

Very very similar to first bottle this evening. Maybe a touch more open and more relaxed but still very fine.
