Nice wine - classic Burgundian Pinot Noir - brick red, lots of red fruit flavours. Relatively light weight, and not long, but classic. Perhaps slightly closer to sucking on slightly bitter red cherry stones rather than munching into sweet cherry fleshy fruit, but still admirable and enjoyable. Saved a little in the bottle, under vacuum, for the next couple of nights. Still fruity after one night, but in decline after that, so perhaps a medium-term keeper at best now?

RN74 Spartap and gang Raj sighting -- Showing great, a lovely '01 with loads of deep earthy character but enough fruit and lift to make it a wonderfully well-rounded decade-old Burg.

2001 Cote du Nuits Red Burgundies (Vin Vino Wine, Palo Alto, CA): Smoky, gamey nose, quite interesting. Some of that carries over to the palate, which is complex and balanced. Red fruit is supported by great structure, acidity giving way to tannins on the back end. Long finish. This is delicious and seems likely to improve over the next 5 years.

A very nice entrance into the realm of Burgundy. While it is not an example of how complex a Burgundy wine can be (or so I've heard), it still presented a nice bouquet of red fruit, spice, star anise, and a hint of something in the background that I was unable to identify but that which was very pleasant. Medium body with excellent acidity and good structure with a lingering finish.
