  • From 375ml. Opened and drunk over 2 nights (vacuum preserved). Initial nose had a whiff of sulphur but this had completely blown off by 2nd night. Golden, bright colour. Quite a deep gold for 5 years of age. Nose is floral and honeyed and heavy with botrytis scents. Somewhat muted on the nose. Palate is far better. Syrupy and rich all the way through to the mid palate and then lots of botrytis on the finish. Flavours of apple and honey. Some decent balancing acidity on the end and a longish, sticky finish. The kind that catches in your throat.
This is a very well made Beerenauslese that perhaps falls a little short on the nose and acidity. A good result from a variable year and a pleasure to drink now. I'd imagine the closed nose and primary flavours will give rise to some lovely secondary notes with some cellar time. Given that this wine was very well priced at release (£14) it represents execellent value for anybody who likes this style botrytis enriched rieslings.

  • A pleasant surpise from this relatively modestly priced BA ($40). Genuinly intense riesling smell and flavor. Definitely dessert wine sweetness and unctiousness although botrytis is not as obvious. Still, good length and bright fruit make this a winner at this price point.
