Very dark - suggested a heaviness that wasn't there. Instead a nicely balanced full bodied wine with no sharp edges. Paired well with pizza and pasta and dark chocolate.

Opened up very tight, almost gaseous in quality. But the color was right, extremely dark purple. Basic alcohols and very hidden fruit. But after an hour of being open, it emerged into a beautiful example of WA Syrah. Cassis and blackberry overtones, whifs of tobacco and flint, overriding minerality. Pure, long flavors, with acids, oak and tannins all in check. Flavor goes on forever. Extremely surprised this gem we had been cellaring was so good, rivals all the $50 bottles out there. Definitely decant next time, still has places to go.

Secret Crush (Gerding Theater, Portland): Just bottled. Obviously needs some time. Decent spice and flavor, but still disjointed. Flavors were not integrated enough to be enjoyable, but this has some promise with time.

Tasted in may 2012 - earthy, smoky, along with bright red fruit and grainy tannins. I think it might improve a little, but drinking beautifully now.
