  • yellow colour and mildly viscous in the glass. the nose is more delicate than one might expect for Viognier, with a leading mineral note that opens to subtle tropical fruits with hints of chirimoya, citric notes, and floral accents. in the mouth an acidic astringency runs from entry to finish, but subsides mid-palate for the white orchard and stone fruit to emerge with honeyed touches and wet-stone minerality. good length, if still a tad austere.

while enjoyable in and of itself, it seems to want to resemble a local Sauv. Blanc more than being a Viognier, with the exuberance of the varietal rather emasculated… i suppose much of that has something to do with local tastes and critical opinion (which, in whites, tends to favour highly acidic and rather austere wines). i do wonder if a bit of bottle age would tamp down a tad the acidity and allow the lovely underlying fruit to step forward a bit more.

13.5% AbV; 100% Viognier from the Espinal Vineyard in the Limarí Valley; no wood contact; screw cap closure.
