Last bottle from a mixed case that came cross country with me in the back seat of a 57 Benz 190. Complex and balanced vintage Port with mature notes to ring in the New Year with friends.

Compared to the '77 Sandeman, this was a youngster! Deep purple with moderate fade, more black fruits, richer palate with some ample tannins softening up, very nice and more approachable but not as elegant as the Sandeman. Fun to compare these, could still go another 5-10 no problem. Thanksgiving dinner at B's.

Cork crumbled when being pulled had to filter the wine on decanting. Brick red to brown some thinning at the rim good legs. Warm berry fruits and figs on the nose. Soft, warm, smooth, entry, black fruits with nuts and toffee.
Good balance and length, very good current drinking, Do not think it will get any better.

Baby fat all gone, it is in a good place to drink now. Tasted v nice after 3-4 hours in decanter. Alcohol well integrated, nice feel in the mouth though not much of a finish to speak of. Left in decanter overnight. By day 2, it was already clearly on the down, w this undesired peppery feel in the mouth...

Cork broke when opened. Definitely on the down side and tasted very tawny like. A bit thin, but fig and but flavors.
