  • Remarkably solid, high-quality cork - I guess this must be recently re-corked. Lots of somewhat jellied sediment, so letting the bottle stand vertically for a few days and careful decanting heartily recommended.

Somewhat translucent black cherry color with a developed mahogany hue. Very restrained, almost completely mute nose. Everyone really struggled to find anything in the nose here. However, with enough air (close to 30 min in glass + the wine was double-decanted for 3-4 hours beforehand), the nose starts to exhibit subtle, nuanced and attractive aromas of jammy dark berries, some medicinal notes, a little bit of dried dates, a bretty hint of Band-Aid and a touch of pancakes and burnt sugar. Contrasting the somewhat mute nose, the wine feels much more expressive on the palate with sweet and juicy, yet still somewhat restrained flavors of raspberry jam, overripe black cherries, some licorice, a little bit of fresh dark berries and a touch of raisin. Overall the wine comes across very smooth and elegant; the acidity feels rather modest and the tannins are almost fully resolved, offering only very light tannic grip that slowly piles up sip after sip. The finish is sweet, juicy and very slightly grippy with quite long, smooth and rich flavors of ripe and juicy dark berries, some cherry marmalade, a little bit of stewed plums, a hint of raisin and a touch of caramel.

A very smooth, sophisticated and elegant Vintage Port that had very, very unexpressive nose, but that was still very enjoyable and suave on the palate. in my tasting of 10 Vintage Ports this wine felt a little underwhelming next to so many other, more expressive VPs, but still this wine managed to perform surprisingly well, thanks to its tasty and harmonious overall character. Not a big, sturdy and impressive VP, but instead a more delicate and restrained effort. Probably best if drunk on its own, not next to some other Port wines. Worth its price at 47€.

  • This was my first mature Port, or vintage, so I didn't know what to expect. It seemed fresh, and the only sign of age I could detect was the intense concentration of sweetness. Cherries on the nose and milk chocolate covered maraschino cherries on the palette. It was drinking very nicely and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

  • marvellously fresh and youthful, just like my son who shares the same vintage. i reckon my next bottle will be consumed at my son's 30th and we can both remark on whether he has fared better than the wine!

  • 2 Chard, 8 Zins, 2 Ports: Never had this before but this was really good right now. Ruby in color. The nose had raspberries, nuts, and milk chocolate. Mature and easy to drink. Complex. I thought it older than it was. I would drink these now and enjoy.
