Very nice sweetie - esp at the end of an evening of Southwest France wines. Got the honey, orange peel and caramel. Not quite up to a 2001 Yquem but not a bad way to end the meal.

This was pretty good but mostly a letdown. Too sweet without enough acidity. Apple syrup. Orange peel. Honey. Not bad. But certainly not as good as Rimmerman hyped it up to be.

Weekly tasting group #131; Bordeaux (@ CvR): Beautiful and concentrated wine with currants, apple syrup, apricots and caramel both in the nose and the mouth. Very pure and clean wine. Great concentration. Beautiful balance between (a lof of) sweetness and acidity, but I have the impression the wine is losing some of its freshness it had a few years ago. Still a beautiful wine. 91 for tonight.

(GRAND MAISON Cuvee des Monstres) 2001 Maison Dear Friends, We've offered a lot of dessert wine lately but this is a standout in any company. I need to state in advance that this allocation is small - very small. There are less than 20 cases of 500ml bottles left for the world and the Monstres is going to be swooned over in a junior 2001 Yquem-like way (not just from us - from distributors and importers all over Europe - 20 cases doesn't go very far). That adds up to supply and demand issues that could push this into interesting territory from an economic standpoint but that's for the secondary market to decide. All I will say is, this is Grande Maison's top wine - it is their version of La Graviere's Cuvee Madame (most would argue it is a step above Cuvee Madame) and it is from 2001. If you remember, 2001 in Sauternes was considered one of the top vintages of the last half century and it was the same in Monbazillac. I'm not going to reprint any reviews as we don't have enough quantity but you can check the consumer/blog community for a broader base of opinion... VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - VERY RARE: 2001 Grande Maison Monbazillac "CuvÄe des Monstres" 500ml. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Bord7530

Drinking nicely. Very sweet, lots of botrytis. Good grip and tension on the finish.

ok but lacked verve/acidity to give it balance to be more than just solid.
