Final bottle from a half case. Identical to my previous note. What a great way to bow out at 17 years of age. There are undoubtedly greater wines in Burgundy, but in a way this is what Burgundy is all about. Elegance, freshness, balance, power without weight, cherries and fresh nuts and undergrowth, considerable longevity, lovely aromatic complexity and very good length.

A private lunch with friends (at home): Marvellous stuff. Mature and fragrant and fresh, balances the elegant gravitas of the vineyard with the freshness of the vintage, undergrowth and wood spice, white nuts, medium body, satiny texture, firm but gentle tannins, very good resonance and length.

A private dinner with friends (at home): Unsurprisingly, this has much more power and gravitas than the Chambolle 2007 from Dujac which preceded it, and the context of compare and contrast really underlined the "iron and earth" Nuits typicity of this wine. The 2002 vintage lends a light and fresh touch to the red berry fruit and overall the wine is pretty well-balanced. The tannic extraction is well judged and length is good, even though the note of black tea on the finish indicates full maturity.

Mature but lively appearance, floral and fresh, youthful but with some evolution (undergrowth, rosehip), beautifully harmonious and elegant, silky and supple, mostly resolved tannins but with just the right amount of earthy grip to remind us that we are in Nuits, medium weight, natural sweetness and a touch of black tea on the finish, good length. This is still a delightful, sappy, Les Saint-Georges, but a certain frailty is setting in.

Tasted blind. Black cherries, mushrooms. Lovely nose, but on the palate a bit lifted and disjointed, though may have been elegant a couple of years ago.
