Monthly Tasting Group: CDP's and Southern Rhones (Meritage, St. Paul): I was too busy pouring and enjoying this to write anything down, but I can say it disappeared rather quickly and was very tasty. Nicely balanced and even Craig claimed he liked it. Well that is pretty good praise indeed. Plenty of tropical fruit and not at all cloying; with some nice spicebox to close it out. Probably going to have to find some more of these.

Shiraz (Irene's House, St. Paul): Medium gold color, PNP, drank 1+ glass from 375ml over 60 minutes. Subtle nose to start, opens more to show petrol, citrus, tropical, kiwi, mango, honey, a little floral. The palate has good body, tropical, kiwi, mango, citrus, sweet, honeyed, pineapple, good spiciness, nice texture, fair acidity. 92+pts.

NOSE: Ohhhhhh, so delicious! Lots of diesel, spicy botrytis and kumquat; clove-spiced gum drops; hint of new rubber tires. Expressive and complex.
BODY: rich goldenrod color; full bodied.
TASTE: unctuous and lip-smackingly delicious; flavors are not as intense as the Nose suggests; complex tropical mélange of orange marmalade, lychee, concentrated papaya, golden raisins and dried pineapple; very sweet and not much acidity; 8.5% alc. not noticeable; a bit light on the finish; ideally, this would have more acidity, but I don’t mind the relative lack of acidity a whole lot. I believe this has sufficient concentration of fruit to improve with short to mid-term ageing.
B: 50, 5, 14, 16, 8 = 93
