from that back of the basement closet; burnished brass color; a bit of must quickly blows off; still has (mostly) exotic fruit including lychee and mango (?papaya); minor sweetness and acidity; an acquired taste (my wife didn't care for it) but still enjoyable

Very nice wine gewurz with a touch of grapefruit and some of the lychee that cartime wrote about and then a hint of gasoline. All comes together in some way that tastes pretty good and stood up to some great vietnamese food. A nice, potent wine that shouldn't be toyed with.

Medium gold color. Perfumed nose of honeyed tropical fruits, lychee, lavender, and sweet spices with a Riesling-like diesel note. Lush, full bodied palate of honey, lychee, banana, and allspice. Just off-dry with perfectly balanced acidity. There is quite a bit of perceptible alcohol on the palate that carries over to the long finish, leaving it a little hot. This is the only thing keeping this from a higher score. Definitely better than my recent tasting of the 2008 - fuller bodied and more depth and complexity. Would buy again. Not showing as well on Day 2, surprisingly.

Beautiful honey, light gold color. Spicy, floral, some peach and a little petrol on the nose. Palate was quite full and rich and so nicely balanced with moderate acidity. Very nice wine. Prob even a few points higher (for me) in 2-3 years. I need to drink more gewurtz and less riesling as I find some rieslings (esp when young) lack the balance of a wine like this.

(Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Réserve Personnelle) Light medium golden yellow color; baked, spicy peach, ripe Gewurz, roses nose; ripe, concentrated, ripe peach, mineral, roses palate; medium-plus finish (has definitely declined and is past its prime compared to when I tasted it 3 years back)
(Domaine Weinbach Gewurztraminer Réserve Personnelle) Great spicy freen fruit and floral nose; oily texture, sweet, lychee, gardenia and mineral palate; medium-plus finish 93+ pts.

A really nice wine - the sweetness took a backseat after the bottle was open for a few hours. Still ripe, but acidic enough to stay balanced.
