This wine was outstanding, as Ellner always is. We had it, for our (belated) Valentine's Day dinner, with duck cracklings that I made as an appetizer. Charles Ellner Champagnes are difficult for us to acquire here in KY, but if we had easy access to them, we would scarcely consider wines from any other sparkling wine producer....

At a tasting: Clear straw. Profound congac like honey (oxidized) grain alcohol. Medium + cognac like honey on the nose, less profound but consistent on the palate, a hint of green apple. Soft Medium acidity, grain alcohol in the finish. Good balance by aging, toasty short finish, good intensity, okay complexity. 87+. Over the peak, at least, this bottle is.

Rich golden color. Soft, rounded edges with a deep underlying sweetness like date and honey. Broad, very rich palate of pear, yeast, hazelnuts, fully mature and the first vestiges of oxidation. Delightful.

Outstanding as usual. Rich, yeasty, and gingery. A consistent favorite at our household.

Outstanding. Dense, with intense flavors of Creme Brulee, ginger, biscuit, and lemon peel.
We've had quite a bit of bottle-to-bottle variation with this one, but when it is "on", it's ON.....and this one was ON. Wow.
