(NV FLEURY Fleur de l'Europe) Champagne Dear Friends, Champagne can cost a fortune but it doesn’t have to. What about BIO/organic and naturally produced Champagne? I’ve extolled the virtues of Jean-Pierre Fleury in the past, and the Champagne from this house continues to up the ante with each new release. An estate that claims status as Champagne’s oldest BIO certified producer, their location in the Cote de Bar insures a renegade approach but, by all accounts, Fleury is the definitive and classic expression of this wild-west region of southern Champagne. They farm meticulously, pick and sort their grapes with 2-3 passes and the fruit is barely touched during its elevage. Without a grand commercial intention (a la something like Krug or Taittinger), Fleury produces Champagne for Parisian and Belgian collectors and for local restaurants – wine that expresses their terroir and sense of what Champagne from the Bar should be like. They do not wish for their wine to taste like Clos du Mesnil and rightfully so. Mesnil is Mesnil – this is the Bar. The “Fleur de l’Europe” cuvee emphasizes what most producers in the Bar stake their claim on: Pinot Noir. It is rare to find Blanc de Blanc in this region but Fleury likes to add 10-20% Chardonnay to this cuvee to give it a feminine and sensual quality that buttresses the aged/masculine tone they are going for in the Pinot Noir (de-skinned of course – this is not a rosé). The results are excellent and this new release of Fleur de l’Europe reminds us that top-tier, regal Champagne can still be enjoyed without taking out a second mortgage: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a terrific buy on naturally produced Champagne of merit. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the source: NV Jean-Pierre Fleury Champagne “Fleur de l’Europe” Brut - (this is not the wine PC Consultime has, it’s the cuvee VinNaturel.fr has; compare at in the US) FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 24/person until we run out To order: nicki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to arrive in a few weeks – it is not a long-term pre-arrival (please check OARS for local pick-up after June 1st). It will ship during the Fall shipping season. Drink 2012-2022+ (despite its NV designation and use of older wine in the blend, I believe this cuvée has a touch of 1995, it is known to age for a number of years). Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure. For current local pick up and arrival/ship information, please see your OARS link below (at the bottom of this offer) - don’t know how to access your OARS? Simply click the link and see your account.
