Opened with friends: a big hit. Wine has aged very nicely; may be at its peak with nice, big but smooth fruit, acid and a lot more. Took at little while to open up; probably should have decanted. Nose had modest notes of berry, nutty hints and mushroom? On the palate, incredibly smooth and well balanced; just a hint of tannin left on the finish preceded by red fruit, leather, and a bit of spice. Wish I had more!

Very dark, deep ruby; completely opaque in that I can't see through this when held up to light; nose of anise, dark red/black fruits, dust, menthol and slight chocolate; initial taste was immediate alcohol, oak, anise, blackberry, typical Zin spice/earthiness; long finish.
This wine is intense and wonderful! The alcohol level is typical for a Zin at 15.5% and it immediately came across on the first sip. After an hour, that subsided and the fruit became more evident. There is a good amount of oak, but it's far from overpowering and really rounds things out. This is a Zin that drinks like a Cab and is really nice. I've always appreciated Mauritson/Rockpile for their small lot production from some of the greatest vineyards. This doesn't disappoint, other than disappointing me in that it's my last bottle.

I thought this was phenomenal. Decanted for about an hour before drinking. Great body, fruit, and zip. I disagree with others notes on here and think it is better than what they said. Zins are my favorite and this ranks right up there. I've tried to find more of this particular vintage, but no luck. I believe that maybe, just maybe, it's at a peak.

Solid Zin but not spectacular. Did improve after 30 minutes.

Some fruit, spice and oak. Good but not remarkable.
