Opened this for a blind tasting. Wine was sound and the fruit was still quite pleasant. Figs and dried strawberries. Oak was nice and integrated giving a lovely cinnamon note. Slight oxidative characteristics indicative of its age.
However, the wine is clearly out of balance. The alcohol is obscenely high and as good as the fruit is it cannot match that intensity (unlike Amarone). The finish is like that of a shot. Fruit and structure half left the palate and all that remains is the burning sensation in ones throat. Not ideal.

Christmas wine. Opened and had a little funk so I decanted. Surprisingly little sediment, not much bricking on the rim, looked 10 years younger than it is. Well stored i guess.
+30 minutes, funk blowing off. Loads of fruit still upfront with equal amounts of tertiary notes on the finish.
+1.5 hrs. Had with beautiful tenderloin roast, accompanied well but this has a ways to go. Megan (wife) suggested it needed more time. So we set aside while putting kids to bed and cleaning up.
+2.5 hrs. Wonderful nose of secondary notes, cedar, soy sauce, with blue fruit and a little tartness of preserved raspberries. Decent mid palette, still has some drying tannins on the finish, but thats all that you notice of tannins. Wonderful. 93 puts now.
+3.5 hrs, fruit is back on the nose, beautiful cola, reminiscent of Howell Mountain. Beautiful. So thankfully that I have more of some later vintages that Richard made. And that they need a long time to lay down. 94.

Wow. Richard Arrowood sold Amapola Creek recently, and his fine winemaking skills will be missed. We are not huge Cabernet Sauvignon fans but you cannot go wrong with this wine. It has none of the flaws (what we perceive as flaws) of Cab: it’s not too high in alcohol, it’s not too oaky. Instead it is drinks smoothly and pairs beautifully with a simple grilled steak. This wine probably has another ten years on it. Enjoy.

I think the CT grade is dead bang on here. Out of the chiller and pnp, this is unimpressive. Room temp over 2 hours with a great ribeye, peppers and onions. It develops a nose, a little dirt up front to go with the fruit. Going in later, loads of black fruit, cassis, lead pencil, integrated tannins and cedar with a little forest floor thrown in. All the secondary characteristics are settling in. Silky texture in the mouth with a certain density that only age and Dick Arrowood can bring. Lots of what seems like dark pipe tobacco, dark plum on the backend with a little mocha component. In a great drinking window right now but give it an hour or two to prove itself once you pnp.

Opened on a whim because the previous bottle was not drinking well and its Megan's birthday.
Off the bat super smooth, balanced good fruit and secondary notes coming through. Last bottle was Christmas a couple years ago.
Fantastic, secondary notes coming through. Balaced fruit, and sage, savory notes. Good acidity to blanace. Find more pre 2015 Arrowhead wines.
