  • IWFS AGM Dinner (Matsugawa, the Pines Club): What an unsual wine. A blend of 60% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chard and 20% Cab Franc - all white of course. Not altogether unpleasant, but no better than say your run-of-the-mill Prosecco or Cava. Nose had a whiff of oxidative fruit, along with sweet kumquats, creme fraiche and a touch of funk. Surprisingly dry on the palate, with some slightly sour citrus notes on the attack and some heat and spice sprinkled along the way. Otherwise, the Chenin showed up pretty obviosuly, with indistint white fruit laced with honey and besswaxy tones. Finish was surprsingly decent, with spice and cirtus fruits mingling in the mouth.

  • Loire tasting (Michaels appartment): Light straw yellow. Some flower aromas at first but it quickly turns to red, meaty apples and ryebreed. Small bubbles that has a fine length. In the mouth it is robst and masculine, with red apples, a tight acidity and some bitterness on the midpalate and finish.
