Incredible showing tonight. The aroma of cherries right out of the bottle was unmistakable - fabulous. I have to disagree with the respected Lisa Brown from RP about the wine “reaching a sudden point of sourness”. This wine was spectacular from the cork popping at 4pm until the last sip at 9pm - glorious in reality. We opened 6 Brunellos and Barolo’s (including Castelgiocondo 2001 and others) and I dare say this may have been the WOTN ! Now I wish I had many more !

Bottle was incredible! Plenty of dark fruit. Velvety tannins that were “just enough but not too much”. Brilliant nose. Classic “brooding” Sangiovese, but no bad hints of scorched earth or barn. An overall beautiful enjoyable experience! Bravo Giacomo!

Cerretalto Vertical Tasting (Restaurant 1.TH (CPH)): The only wine in the vertical where the nose clearly showed the barrique aging. The nose was mostly coffee and dark chocolate with hints of sewer. It was very difficult to get the fruit to present itself. Luckily, the use of barrique was as present on the palate. It was extremely primary with blackberry and black currant and seemed to lack acidity. Only a medium aftertaste which primarily were dominated by the wild tannins. Judging this wine was a little bit difficult due to the fact that it was served directly after the amazing 01 which can have lead to a harsh impression of this wine.

I usually love this wine, but perhaps due to the warm year somehow it was less balanced. Somewhat disappointing.

Just perfect. It was the third Brunello of the night four friends and I were enjoying. Definetely the best. Great nose, great body, very complex.
