  • Amazingly beautiful nose but not wholly matched on the palate or it would have merited a higher score. I would buy this again.

  • I am surprised by the rather low scores on CT for this beautiful Sangiovese....
It seems to me to be at very nice position to drink now. Nose is complex and combines purity of cherry fruit with more developed Sangiovese aromas like tar and dried flowers. Quite typical. Unmistakably Sangiovese without any noticeble oak influence.
The palate was full, structured and yet with a very soft and mellow mouthfeel. Perfectly ripe tannins. Combines weight with elegance.
At this point I would describe the wine as a quite full bodied but aromatically typical traditional Sangiovese of a top Brunello level.
    No hurry to drink.

  • seven years after my first bottle, this Testamatta has evolved significantly and probably more than it should. Less complex than I remember, with hint of stable, leather, pencil and forest. Nice, but somehow below expectations and somehow flat (maybe best drinking window passed by...)

  • Great minerality, red cherry but not fruit forward. Good finish--we decanted for 3 hours.

  • Started off showing plenty of roasted fruit and dark chocolate on the nose. With time the overt Port-esque fruitiness toned down and it became a bit more obviously Sangiovese with a haunting smokiness to it. The tannins are quite mild at this point, acidity only moderate and overall the wine is very approachable. Fairly rich, paired well with a cheese course of mostly hard Northern Italian cheeses. An interesting rendition of this variety, although my personal preferences lean towards the red-fruited and less oaky styles.
