  • Last bottle, splash decanted, drank over 2 hours.

Notes from prior tasting: "Medium, translucent ruby color. Nose jumps out from the opening, red fruits, spices. Palate is raspberry, cherry candy, red berries, baking spice. Sweetness on the mid palate from the cherry candy/cola dimension that makes it enjoyable - although for a Burgundy aficionado this would be too New World. Mouth feel is medium/thin. Finish is medium, layered and pleasant..."

This has aged nicely, still drinking beautifully. Soft red fruits, earth and spice. Palate still bright/young enough this point where it seems it will go for a while, but I don't think it will improve much.

  • After dinner, drank on its own, PnP, drank over 2+ hours. Significantly better after 30 minutes. Haven't had this in a couple years, bought from Garagiste in Seattle.

Very nice wine all in. Will likely drink well for another 5-7 years. In a good spot right now

  • Medium ruby color. Voluptuous nose of sweet red berries and apricots. Medium bodied on the palate, slightly thin and rustic but with good presence.

  • I can't review this wine any better than gripNsip did just two days ago (02/10/2012) ... that review does a great job describing the current state of this wine. Although it hails from the hot 2006 vintage, this wine is soft, elegant, and smooth. It paired well with food and is showing beautifully now. The nose takes a little time to open up, but when it does there are aromas of spice, raspberry, and cherry. I can't get over how unassuming this wine is given how the 2006 vintage is showing in general (big, beefy wines). You could probably sit on it for another year or two, but it's drinking wonderfully now. Cheers!

  • Drinking really well now. Balanced, easy, and delicious. Not a lot complexity here, just soft red fruit and spice. Medium intensity and length. The reason I scored this 90 is the balance and fruit, it's perfectly delicious and paired perfectly with food, adding flavor without trying to overpower any part of the meal. Not much change on day 2, it's still delicious.

    (J. ALBIN Laurel Pinot Noir) Oregon Dear Friends, J. Albin does it again with a rendition of his Laurel Vineyard Pinot Noir that is going to find a home in many cellars. 2006 has already gained attention as a vintage of purity, terroir and lovely fruit (similar to 2001 in Burgundy) and this well-priced wine is a steal. The best Oregon and California wines have abandoned this price-point long ago which makes the Albin family's pro-consumer policy more than appealing. As far as style is concerned, in my opinion, the 2006 Laurel Vineyard Pinot Noir is better than the touted 2005 (not the norm everywhere in Oregon). It is a wine produced from old vines on a steep parcel of land that receives solar exposure from morning until dusk. The light-handed velvet and spice-tinged sap produced from the vintage give the term "new world winemaking" a refreshing focus. I would argue that J. Albin is part of a new dawn in US viticulture that is spreading one winery at a time - one where actual terroir is emphasized over potential for scores and profits. While Oregon has always been on the cusp of this mantra, this wine gives credence to the synthesis of old and new, it is where Oregon Pinot Noir is headed - hand-picked, hand made and fermented using natural yeast and traditional methods but still ripe, varietally pure and full of berry-licious personality. Sounds like a winning combination to me. A great success and in the words of J. Albin, "From my family to you, enjoy"... This parcel is directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance: 2006 J. Albin Pinot Noir "Laurel Vineyard" Willamette Valley Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA OR7490
